To guide young students to foster lofty ideals, temper the character of perseverance and hard work, and lay a solid ideological foundation for their growth and success, Zhang Hebing, Vice President of the university, visited Limerick International College on June 2. He delivered a special ideological and political theory lecture to students in Meeting Room 207, followed by an in-person forum with student representatives.
Centering on four themes — live with lofty ideals, dare to shoulder responsibilities, endure hardships willingly, and strive relentlessly in life**, Zhang combined young people’s growth with the demands of the times in his lecture. Citing classical poems and speaking in a warm, enlightening tone, he shared profound messages with the students:
- Quoting "A true man aspires to embrace the whole world; thousands of miles apart feels no farther than next door", he urged students to cherish the country and nation, hold grand aspirations, and integrate their youthful dreams into the overall cause of national development and national rejuvenation.
- With the line "I wall myself for ten years to break through the wall; even if unfulfilled, diving into the sea still makes a hero"*, he elaborated on the connotation of responsibility for youth in the new era, encouraging them to voluntarily take on the missions of the times and shoulder youthful burdens fearlessly.
- Drawing on "Stand firm through countless beatings and grindings; let all winds from all directions rage as they will", he exhorted students to cultivate perseverance and fortitude, unafraid of setbacks and trials along their growth paths.
- Citing "Green mountains stretch far as far as eyes can see; seize the east wind now to hoist your sails", he inspired everyone to seize historic opportunities, forge ahead with resolve, and strive for excellence.
Zhang extended a message to all students: they must keep General Secretary Xi Jinping’s earnest instructions firmly in mind, and strive to become outstanding young people of the new era with ideals, a sense of responsibility, grit, and dedication. They should forge ahead in pursuit of truth, shine through hard work, and grow into a new generation capable of shouldering the arduous mission of national rejuvenation.
After the lecture, Zhang held an exchange forum with students present. They engaged in in-depth discussions covering academic life and career planning, and he patiently resolved students’ doubts amid a vibrant atmosphere. Students all stated that they would strengthen their ideals and convictions, hone solid capabilities, and compose brilliant youthful chapters worthy of the times through diligent striving.
