To enrich campus cultural activities, strengthen class cohesion and showcase students’ positive mental outlook, Limerick International College hosted a tug-of-war contest themed *Unite as One, March Forward in Youth* on the afternoon of May 12 at the east side of the college. A total of 15 class teams took an active part in the event. Foreign teachers also joined the competition voluntarily, building a cross-cultural communication platform through sports and bringing unique vitality to the tournament.
The contest adopted a knockout format. Preliminary matches were decided by the best-of-three rule, while semi-finals and finals were single-elimination showdowns. From group draws to successive elimination rounds, every match witnessed a contest of strength and resolve, and every deadlock embodied perseverance and a strong sense of responsibility. At the referee’s whistle, competitors gripped the rope firmly, lowered their centers of gravity and pulled as one, holding fast amid stalemates and striving relentlessly. Spectators from all classes cheered loudly from the sidelines, with chants and cheers echoing nonstop, fueling the players and pushing the atmosphere to a fever pitch.
After several rounds of fierce competition, Class Automation 2402 claimed the first prize. The second prizes went to Class Automation 2403, Class Computer Science 2502 and Class Automation 2501. The third prizes were awarded to Class Automation 2401, Class Automation 2503, Class Computer Science 2501 and Class Computer Science 2504. Eight teams including Class Computer Science 2401 and Class Automation 2504 received Excellence Awards.
This tug-of-war competition not only enriched students’ after-school life but also united collective strength and boosted their sense of collective honor. Meanwhile, it created a relaxed and pleasant interactive platform for Chinese and foreign teachers and students, enabling cross-cultural friendships to take root and blossom through sports. Going forward, the college will keep launching diverse cultural and sports events, set up stages for students to display their talents, deepen exchanges between Chinese and foreign faculty and students, and support the all-round development of every student.
