To further reinforce campus fire safety safeguards and enhance students’ awareness of fire prevention as well as their ability to respond to sudden fire emergencies, Limerick International College organized a fire emergency evacuation drill in the student dormitories on the afternoon of April 24. Zhu Lin, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee, all counselors, staff from the Security Office, together with students of Grade 2024 and Grade 2025 took part in the activity.
Prior to the drill, staff from the Security Office delivered a lecture focusing on fire prevention in university dormitories and self-rescue methods during fires, with special emphasis on escape skills and the proper way to use wet towels. Volunteers then distributed towels to students and guided them back into the dormitory buildings in a quick and orderly manner. Once the alarm blared and artificial smoke filled the corridors, students covered their mouths and noses with damp towels, bent low and moved forward. They evacuated rapidly along pre-planned routes. With full guidance from staff and volunteers, all participants safely arrived at the designated assembly area. The whole evacuation proceeded in a standardized and smooth fashion, fulfilling all preset objectives of the drill.
After the drill, Zhu Lin delivered a comprehensive summary. He stressed that all students must attach great importance to fire safety, strictly abide by dormitory fire safety regulations, and firmly refrain from hazardous behaviors such as unauthorized electricity use and random wiring, so as to jointly safeguard campus safety.
This fire drill serves as a key initiative for the college to implement safety responsibilities and build a secure campus. Taking this activity as an opportunity, the college will further improve the campus emergency response mechanism for safety incidents, and carry out regular safety education activities including fire safety publicity, emergency skill training and practical drills. These efforts will solidify the campus safety barrier and protect students’ healthy growth.
